Childhood dish #1

I've decided to start recording the dishes I loved as a child, and as a grown-up. Ooo... have I just declared to the whole wide world that I'm a grown-up? Scary word, huh.

Anyway, this is childhood dish #1 - "Chai poh egg"


It's basically fried eggs with chai poh (dried radish). In Singapore we can get chai poh in supermarkets and wet markets. They usually come in humble plastic packs, all chopped into tiny pieces and ready to wash and cook. Add them into your eggs, whisk it a little and fry. You can add some salt or soy sauce if you want. It's as simple as that. And it's so yummy! It's definitely my number one comfort fast food.

Home sweet home

Back from Phuket. I'd meant to post the new colour schemes for the purse organizer but got 'a little' distracted by this. Had placed an order for the blue and green fabric and now I've added to my fabric collection without a tiny clue of what I'd do with them. Again.

My fabric stash is really growing and I desperately need some 'anti-moulding' agent to protect them. Time for some thirsty hippos to the rescue. But actually, do I really need it? Will fabric grow mouldy? I guess they do unless I wash them regularly... I have this obsession to keep things in mint condition. I get upset when my magazines had a slight fold or tear. Very upset when my clothes get stained. Jumping-around-the-house upset if the stain can't be washed off. So imagine my upset level if any one of my fabric gets mouldy.

Anyway, I found yet another blog I love. good-ness. I love that the writer is based in Japan and she writes about Japanese 'goodness' (I bought the Lotta Jansdotter fabric from her, btw). But I especially love her writing style. She writes in really short sentences. I find it very easy to read. It's as if she takes away all the unnecessary 'clutter' from her message. Short, simple, to the point. What do you think?

Off to Phuket!

I'm off to Phuket tomorrow morning. Why do I get a feeling that I only update this blog whenever I'm going somewhere?

Lately I've been preoccupied with getting my daughter to sleep on her own, in her own bedroom. Every night in the past few weeks I've been waking up in the middle of the night to her crying. Sometimes twice a night. Because of that, I'm pretty much a zombie during the day. I can hear things, see things and do things, but my mind is still out in dreamland and it's hard to concentrate. Makes me so frustrated sometimes. My husband has started taking turns with me at night now and it looks like our effort is paying off. She goes to sleep willingly on her own now. I guess she's encouraged by my promise to keep coming back in 5 minutes, which I do until she falls asleep. Let's hope she'll stop waking up in the middle of the night soon.

When I come back, I'll introduce two new yummy colour schemes for the purse organizer.

I shall leave you with a picture of my daughter decorating the xmas tree (don't let this picture fool you tho... she only placed a bauble or two, my husband did most of the work).

Irisz Agocs

I've been religiously checking out this artist's work for quite a while now. I simply adore her beautiful illustrations... the cute and witty subjects, the sketchy lines, the colours... boy, i think i love everything about it. I like how the drawings have the relaxed feel to it, sort of like, I don't care if the lines aren't straight or if the colours go over the lines, so long as I think it looks nice.

Still, the thing that intrigues me the most about her works is that, they just seemed so effortlessly drawn, which to me, indicates how talented the artist is.

A dear friend challenged me to come up with an illustration of herself, and since she loves Irisz' work too, I decided to give my friend a combination of both. Here's to you, Pam!
